POLICE OFFICER
MUHLENBERG TOWNSHIP POLICE DEPARTMENT

The Muhlenberg Police Department is seeking applicants to join our dynamic and dedicated police force. The Township is intending to hire Individuals who have the drive to excel and the desire to have a positive impact on the community they serve.
Applicants must meet the following minimum qualifications:
Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age by the application deadline
o  Be a U.S. citizen, be a high school graduate or graduate equivalency diploma (GED)
o  Have a Pennsylvania driver’s license before appointment.  
o  Meet the Municipal Police Officers Education and Training Commission standards for physical and mental fitness.
o  Must not have a disqualifying criminal record.

The Township follows the Civil Service process. This includes a written and oral examination, a physical agility/ability test, medical and psychological exams, drug screen, and a thorough background investigation.

The Township offers an excellent salary and benefits package. Applicants who do not possess ACT 120 certification will begin at $49,847 while they are in the police academy. Upon graduation, they receive $79,751, as do applicants who already have Act 120 training. Police officers with experience elsewhere can receive a starting salary of up to $89,722. depending on qualifications. Top salary is $99,694.

A preliminary application must be completed and returned to the Muhlenberg Police Department by MONDAY, FEBRUARY 14, 2022 by 4:00 PM. There is NO CHARGE for taking the written and physical ability tests. When a candidate passes those tests, then a $35 fee will need to be paid in check or money order, made payable to Muhlenberg Township, to continue in the process. Applications may be picked up at the Muhlenberg Township Police office, 210 George Street, Reading, PA 19605 during normal business hours on Monday through Friday from 8AM to 4PM starting Friday, January 14, 2022, Applications can also be downloaded from the Township’s website at: www.muhlenbergtwp.com
Applications can be dropped off in person at the Police Department’s office during normal business or sent via certified mail – return receipt requested.
To be included in the testing process, the preliminary application must be returned to the Township Police Office at 210 George Street, Reading PA before the deadline of 4 PM on MONDAY, FEBRUARY 14, 2022.
The written test will be held on SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 26, at 8:00 AM. The testing site will be BERNADINE HALL on the campus of Alvernia University, 400 Saint Bernadine Street, Reading, PA. The physical agility test will be held at a later date to be determined. For both tests, applicants must produce proof of identification (Government issued photo ID required) (i.e. picture driver’s license) at the testing sites, for admittance to the testing facilities. Candidates with passing score in both the written and physical agility tests will then be scheduled for an oral board examination.
